Exam week

Just a bit of an update on a dreary Monday morning. So, that job I mentioned? Going swimmingly. However, the guy who's place I took left nothing for me - no test, no real grades (he hadn't tested or given assignments all semester, just gave them arbitrary grades based on their participation), and no exam. He hadn't been teaching anywhere near the syllabus or course guidelines. This is why some people shouldn't even think of being in education.

So, this past week I worked up an outline for where the students should be at this point in the year, as well as making them a comprehensive study guide for the exam. I'm going to have an evening study hall session later this week for them so they can have some extra in-class time with the material. Fortunately, the Dean is backing me completely on all of my decisions, so that helps tremendously (take THAT public education, in which the principal can and will cave for every single whiney-ass parent that thinks that it's not little Johnny's fault that he's lazy and willfully stupid, it's the teacher's fault because they're working him too hard). Frankly, I'm not used to support from the administration, so it's a bit heady.

But, next week is the new semester, so everything starts fresh.
