In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.

Yeah, as the Lady said, I've been sucked into Lord of the Rings Online*. It's an online game, it's based on the Lord of the Rings....I'm in dork heaven.

All in all, it's a pretty good game. It's taking a while for everything to fall into place, game-play wise, but it'll get there. I spent six years in EverQuest, and a couple in World of Warcraft. The EverQuest experience ended for me when my dad passed (he and I would play together); it just wasn't the same without him. When he passed, I took his ranger, equipped his original axes, and charged him into Lady Vox's lair - an fitting end to my hero.

The WoW experience didn't end with such fanfare - quite honestly, it just fizzled out, with friends who weren't friends, and people who felt succeeding in life meant succeeding in the game.

So we're trying something new. Quite honestly, Lady Gypsy is indulging my inner nerd by playing this with me, and I greatly appreciate it.

*This is a shot of my hobbit burglar in front of Bag-End, home of Bilbo Baggins.

if games like this existed when i was in college... i would probably still BE in college.

as it is, i avoid online RPGs at all costs, as I know they would lead me quickly down the road to familial neglect and divorce.
